Is My Horse’s Back Comfortable?

April 19, 2008 – 12:44 am

If you think your horse has any discomfort in his back, get a qualified person to access him and either give him a clean bill of health or treat him and eradicate the discomfort.

Ask your vet to recommend someone he approves of. Saddles must be fitted professionally and then checked by a qualified saddle fitter on a regular basis.

Horses change shape dramatically, especially youngsters, older horses or those who are coming back into work after a rest. This is a specialist subject and, with such wide range of saddles on the market, a great deal of expertise is needed to get the horse comfortable and ready for work.

An uncomfortable back can lead to many problems that no bit can possibly solve. A horse will never be able to relax comfortably and lower his head to work if his saddle is causing him pain.
