Jaundice


Causes
Congestion of the liver, biliary fever, resulting after an attack of influenza, strangles, colic, azoturia and during cases of poisoning.

Symptoms
Fowl breath, yawning, turning up the nose, yellowish tinge visible mucous membranes, and white of eye. Tenderness about region of liver, faeces pale colour and not properly digested, smelly.

Treatment
Contact veterinarian.

Joint Ill


A disease affecting young animals, characterised by soft, painful and hot swellings of one or more of the joints, swelling of the navel, which is regarded as the seat of infection. Foal becomes sleepy and lies down alot. Later swellings appear about one or more joints, and there is lameness, high temperature.

Treatment
On showing first symptoms, the foal should be inoculated with a serum. Antibiotics. Contact veterinarian. Keep the mare and foal quiet.

Jinked Neck


Mostly occurs in handling young horses, breaking in, result of fall or injury. The neck has an obvious twist to one side.

Treatment
Keep the horse quiet and feed at a reasonable height so that it is not necessary to bend the neck, which should be supported. Massage the neck. The condition may yield to treatment in about a fortnight. Anti-inflammatory treatment.
